Connecting DishHD Box To An Audio/Video Device

Connecting an audio/video device

You might already have a high-definition DVD player, cable/satellite box or some other audio/video device connected to your TV. To have the sound from that device play through your Bose® system, you will need to make audio connections and keep the current video connections as you have them.

There are three possible output connections on your audio/video device:

  1. Analog

    Analog right and left jacks

  2. Digital coaxial (coax), also may be marked as S/PDIF

    Digital coax jack

  3. Digital optical

    Optical jack

If your device has all three options, choose either digital coax or optical for the best audio quality.

Choose the type of audio connection you want to make from your audio/video device to the Bose system, and follow the steps below:

Making an analog connection

  1. On the back of your audio device, insert one end of the RCA plugs into the AUDIO OUT jacks. The jacks are white for left and red for right
  2. Insert the other end of the RCA plugs into the AUX AUDIO INPUTS jacks on the Bose media center.

  3. On the Bose remote, press AUX. The Lifestyle® system display will show “AUX” as the selected source of audio
  4. Turn on your audio device, press play and turn the volume up to approximately 90% of its capacity
  5. On the remote, press the Volume buttons to control the overall sound of your product

Note: If another device occupies the AUX input, use any other available input on the back of the Bose media center and select that source.

Making a digital coax connection

  1. On the back of your audio device, insert one end of the digital coax cable to digital AUDIO OUT. This might be marked as S/PDIF
  2. Insert the other end of the digital coax cable into the black AUX AUDIO INPUTS jack on the Bose media center.

  3. On the Bose remote, press AUX. The Lifestyle® system display will show “AUX” as the selected source of audio
  4. On the remote, use the Volume buttons to control the overall sound of your product

Note: A digital signal will override an analog signal when connected to the same input.

Making a digital optical connection

Some optical cables come with a protective cover. Make sure to remove this cover before making your connections.

  1. On the back or your audio device, insert one end of the optical cable to the “Optical Out” or “Digital Audio” output
  2. Insert the other end of the optical cable into the OPTICAL INPUT jack on the Bose media center.

  3. Turn on your TV and choose the correct input to see the Bose settings menu on your TV screen. You will need to have a video cable connected from the Bose system to the TV in order to proceed.
  4. On the remote, press Settings
  5. Press Tune down to highlight “System Setup,” then press Enter to confirm your seletcion
  6. Press Tune down to highlight “Optical Source”
  7. Press Seek forward to select the desired source input (AUX, VCR, TAPE or TV)
  8. Once you have made your selection, press Exit to leave the menu

Note: A digital signal will override an analog signal when assigned to the same input.

I copied this article from Bose. In the previous post I have explained the two basic options of connections.
